Sierra Leone is a small former British
Colony in West Africa. The Country of about four million
people became independent in 1961. It has since experienced
an unstable existence, and in the 1990’s went through
a brutal civil war.
One outcome of this record of failure
is the conclusion by Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra
Leone that any sustainable rehabilitation of the country
must more firmly rest on initiatives by local communities
all across the country.
Throughout Sierra Leone today, there
is a marked shift in attitudes away from the centralized
planning and central government domination in favor of
local autonomy.
The founding of TMPI is one expression
of this shift. The organization is fully and strongly
committed to making a powerful contribution through rural
development, and towards sustainable national development
stability. |
